Exploring Edinburgh's Events - December 2019

Sunday, 1 December 2019 Edinburgh, UK

Happy December! We're into our last month of the year, and Edinburgh is dressed to the nines in twinkly lights and Christmas decorations. There are plenty of things I'm looking forward to this month, not least Wreath Watch (I really can't contain my excitement)! When doing a little research for this post, I felt pretty overwhelmed with how much is going on, so instead of sharing Edinburgh's 'headline' events, I've tried to highlight less well-publicised events like the various indie late night shopping events, fun pop-ups, and free events (because we all know this time of the year can get pretty expensive!).

P.S. I'd love for this blog to be a space to share recommendations so if there's anything you feel I've missed, please do leave it in the comment section below.

Exploring Edinburgh's Events - December 2019

  • Late Night Shopping on Broughton Street (6th December, 5pm-8pm)
  • MagicFest (Traverse Theatre, 27th December-5th January)

Spotlight on...

24 Doors of Advent  (Various Locations, until 24th December, Free)

I thought it'd be fun to include this free event which allows you to peek inside a few of Edinburgh's most interesting and beautiful buildings. As the name suggests, each day throughout Advent an Edinburgh location will open its doors to the public. I'd highly recommend checking out the list and a few of my personal favourites are Trinity House (6th December), Mansfield Traquair (8th December), and Riddles Court (12 December).

Christmas Shopping Events

  • Stockbridge, Cloud 9 (5th December) & Broughton Street's (6th December) Late Night Shopping

I don't know about you, but I still have a few presents to buy for friends and family. Thankfully, Edinburgh's indie businesses have your back and various areas and shops are hosting late night shopping events - I'm looking at you Stockbridge, Broughton Street, and Cloud 9! I'm sure there are other businesses doing similar events too, these are just the ones I've heard of. So, head along to enjoy exclusive offers, discounts, festive snacks, and pick up beautiful, unique gifts for loved ones.

Similarly, 3D2D's annual Christmas Fair is a fantastic place to look for meaningful Christmas presents! I first came into contact with 3D2D at their annual West End Fair which runs during August at St John's church and I was blown away by the talented makers and their range of beautiful produce. This December, 3D2D Christmas Fair features 125 exhibitors including Rachelle W Designs, Wayne Galloway Ceramics, and possibly Azami Origami.

Carols at Kings (104 Gilmore Place, 14th December at 7.30pm, Free)

I personally love attending carol services, they're always so uplifting, cosy, and festive. While visiting Rosevear Tea's Bruntsfield branch, I had a browse through their leaflets (where I often pick up a copy of Bite Magazine) and spotted a leaflet about Christmas at King's and their annual carol service. So, if you're interested, head along to King's Church on 14th December at 7.30pm, for classic Christmas carols, readings, and festive refreshments!
