The Launch of Essential Edinburgh's Life & Style Weekender!

Wednesday, 18 April 2018 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh EH2 2AD, UK

For those of you who follow my Edinburgh adventures on Instagram, you'll know I'm a huge fan of afternoon tea so I was delighted to be invited to a rather fun event yesterday, the launch of Essential Edinburgh's Life & Style Weekender 2018, and the best bit, it was held at the Ivy on the Square over afternoon tea!

As well as telling you a little about the exciting Life & Style event that is returning to Edinburgh on the 5th & 6th of May, I thought it'd also be fun to share with you what afternoon at The Ivy was like.

Afternoon Tea at The Ivy on the Square

Having been to the Ivy once before (click here to read about their scrumptious lunch), it was such a treat to return. I always find the staff so friendly, plus their General Manager Eric Garnier is always incredibly welcoming. Despite the gale force winds outside, we were blessed with sunshine and sitting upstairs gave us a wonderful views down Rose Street and over onto St Andrews Square, it truly felt like spring has finally sprung in Edinburgh.

Now onto the fun part, what we had to eat! We started with a selection of savoury treats which consisted of a truffled chicken brioche roll, marinated cucumber and dill finger sandwich, and smoked salmon on gluten-free rye with cream cheese and chives. Being a vegetarian, the Ivy were more than happy to accommodate my dietary requirements and instead of the salmon I had avocado and they swapped out the chicken for tomatoes and feta. All of which were absolutely delicious. They also cater to vegans and offer gluen-free options. The first photo shows their regular, vegetarian, and vegan afternoon teas.

I must admit, my favourite part of afternoon teas are always the sweet treats and the Ivy really excelled. My personal favourite was the raspberry cheesecake tart, there was also chocolate and salted caramel mousse, and a creme brulee doughnut. Not forgetting, of course, the obligatory scone with clotted cream and raspberry preserve - I liked that it also came with fresh strawberries too!

If you'd like to treat yourself to one of their afternoon teas, the full Afternoon Tea is priced at £17.95 per person, or there’s the option to upgrade to the luxurious Champagne Afternoon Tea, for £25.95 per person. If you'd like something a little lighter you could try their cream tea, priced at £7.95.

Things to Look Forward at Essential Edinburgh's Life & Style Weekender

Springtime in Edinburgh means the return of Life & Style; Edinburgh’s annual style event which provides visitors with a fun and fabulous weekend, packed with fashion, beauty, interiors and so much more. Having been last year, I'd highly recommend it!

Lifestyle Stage
I had the pleasure of sitting next to the amazingly lovely broadcaster and lifestyle blogger Susie Bruce during our afternoon tea and found out she'll be hosting the lifestyle stage. Leading industry experts will take to the stage and share their top tips on how to achieve the latest trends at home! A few noteworthy experts include Marie Claire’s Best Hair Stylist of the Year 2018 Jason Collier (whose clients include Victoria Beckham, Sienna Miller, Eva Longoria and Justin Timberlake) and former supermodel and celebrity skincare expert, Charlotte Connoley, who treats A-List celebrity such as Meghan Markle & Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (a personal favourite of mine!)

Fashion & Beauty
You'll also have the opportunity to attend a fashion show and discover this year’s biggest Spring/Summer trends throughout the day.  Highlighting key looks and pieces from top retailers, each catwalk show will be followed by a trend talk from fashion expert Lynne McCrossan.

As for beauty, treat yourself to an express beauty treatment by makeup and skincare pros. All you have to do is turn up on the day and book your choice of treatment, including mini massages, manicures and makeup application.

Interior's Trend Room
Lastly, as I'll be moving into a new flat in June, I'm most looking forward to browsing around their interior trend room. The room showcases this year’s hottest furniture, home accessories and interiors trends.

I must say I got a little excited after browsing through all the workshops on offer! Being a huge tea fan, tea tasting with The East India Company definitely appeals to me. Plus, I'm very tempted to spend a little extra and sign up to the flower workshop with Snapdragon, calligraphy writing with Laila Lettering, or Pillowcase workshop with Hatti Pattisson!

Well, I hope you enjoyed reading about my experience at the Ivy for afternoon tea and my quick roundup of what exciting events will be taking place at Life & Style. Lastly, the first 500 customers to order their tickets receive an exclusive goody bag - how exciting!

That's all for now, bye! x
