As you may or may not know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and for the whole month of October, One Square have turned their Chocolate Tree afternoon tea pink and will make a donation to Cancer Research for every Afternoon Tea sold. I've raved about their afternoon tea in a previous post (click here to read it), so it should come as no surprise, that as soon as I received an invite to attend their Evening Tea in aid of Cancer Research, I hurriedly accepted!

The event started at 6pm with a talk from Arran, a researcher at the Cancer Research UK’s Edinburgh Centre, on the progress the charity is making into breast cancer treatment. This was followed by two wonderfully inspiring talks from breast cancer survivors. It was particularly interesting as both women had completely different experiences and it showed the fast improvement in treatment over the years.

After the talks, we were ushered into One Square's main dining room, where a scrumptious meal awaited us. It was my first time being in the restaurant in the evening and the room looked lovely with coloured lights accentuating the statement lamp shades and decor. Overall, it felt very luxurious yet cosy!

Moroccan Mint and Rose Tea
While we waited for our food, we selected a tea from their menu. Personally, as a massive tea fan, this is always one of the most exciting aspects to an afternoon tea. This evening, I opted for the Moroccan Mint with Rose and it was divine! I've included their whole selection of tea below, in case you're interested.

Tea Menu
  • The Full English
  • All Day Decaf
  • The Mighty Assam
  • The Earl
  • Elderflower & Blossom Darjeeling
  • Emerald Dragon Oolong
  • Simply Sencha
  • Morrocan Mint with Rose
  • Jasmine Pearls & Petals
  • Pure Camomile
  • Superfruity
  • Rosy Fig White Tea (Another I would highly recommend!)
  • Redbush Caramel Velvet

Now let's chat about the food, the first round was a gazpacho, which acted as a palate cleanser. Next, we excitedly watched as the waiters began carrying out cake stands full of sweet and savoury treats.

Being a vegetarian I had a slightly different selection of savoury bites. But, as my mother is not, you'll be able to see both the regular and the veggie option!
The regular menu had a Roasted Sirloin of Beef on Thyme Scented Sour Dough with Wholegrain Mustard Mayonnaise, Roulade of Loch Etive Seatrout with Braised Fennel & Orange, Slow Cooked Chicken & Wild Mushroom with Pistachio Nuts, and Clava Brie & Leek Quiche with Red Onion Marmalade. I too, had the quiche. The problem is I completely forgot to make a note of what the waiter said my savoury treats were - yes, I was too busy salivating at the thought of the food! But as you can see from the photo, I had a cube of mozzarella on a cracker, with a cheddar ball rolled in sesame seeds, and a crispbread with tomatoes and onion.

Our sweet treats started on the next plate, and we were most curious about the lollipop-shaped sweet - which turned out to be our favourite! So, let me run through what you can see in the above picture. The lollipop was made of White Chocolate with Daffy's Gin Ice-Cream, next we had, Madagascan Pistachio Brownie, then, the 70% Chililique Dark Chocolate and Blackcurrant Sponge Finger, and lastly, Coconut, Lime and White Chocolate Bavarois. They tasted as good as they looked!

On the top Tier, we had some more sweet treats! Consisting of, Profiteroles with Manuka Honey and Vanilla Custard (adorably decorated with bees), Lemon and Mint Macarons, Peruvian Dark Milk Chocolate Salted Caramel Millionaires Shortbread, and Orange Truffle Coated in Raspberry Powder.

Now I'm going to be honest, we ended up taking this last selection of treats, along with the scones, home with us as we were feeling pretty full!

Overall, it was such a lovely evening for an amazing cause. We left feeling inspired and thoroughly satisfied! Remember, if you are interested in trying One Square's chocolate afternoon tea in collaboration with The Chocolate Tree of Bruntsfield, for every afternoon tea One Square will donate to Cancer Research!
