Honeycomb & Co Signature Salted Caramel Sundae (£6.50)

Honeycomb & Co

It was one of those Scottish summer evenings where it felt almost like summer. My friend Ashleigh and I walked through the Meadows, toward Bruntsfield, as we had 6pm reservations at Honeycomb & Co to try their new dinner menu.

Before I delve into chatting about our meal, let me just touch on Honeycomb & Co's interior. Upon entering the establishment, I couldn't help but admire the cafe's theme and attention to detail. In keeping with its name, almost every aspect of the cafe had been carefully thought out in relation to a beehive or bees in general. For instance, the lamp shades give a subtle nod toward a beehive and various objects/surfaces have hexagonal shapes incorporated into them!

Okay so let's talk food. The - relatively new - cafe has only recently dipped its toe into Edinburgh's dinner scene (planning to open on Thursday/Friday/Saturdays throughout August until 10.30pm) and it was great to see that they didn't play it safe with their menu, opting for interesting pairings such as lobster macaroni! My friend opted for the pulled beef burger with sweet potato chips and a side salad. As you know I don't eat meat and I was every so slightly disappointed that there were no vegetarian options on their specials menu but not-to-worry, when the waitress took our order I simply asked for whether a dish I liked the sound of, could be made veggie. She quickly checked with the chef and I was told that would not be a problem! I should mention that they did do a vegetarian platter, which sounded delicious too, but I really fancied the sound of their ginger and veg noodles (which was supposed to come with cod). While we waited for our food, we had a look at the drinks menu and both decided to try their raspberry and lime infusion. It was a lovely and refreshing way to start our meal. Also, remember I mentioned the attention to their theme, well the glasses came with a adorable wooden honey dipper to stir our drinks!

When our food arrived, I was surprised to see I had a brown paper parcel wrapped up on my plate - which contained my noodles (photo above). Several dozen photos later and a few inquisitive looks from fellow diners later (thanks for your patience Ashleigh!), we got stuck into our meals. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals and I liked the creative twist that was put on the presentation of mine.

Chocolate Fondant with Fior de Latte Gelato (£7)

When the dessert menu came, the both of us looked at each other wondering if the other had room for dessert. We started off thinking we would share one between us, but, that soon turned into ordering two and sharing them! We went for the chocolate fondant and Honeycomb & Co's signature salted caramel sundae. I must say, as much as I enjoyed the main course, I loved their desserts! The chocolate fondant was my personal favourite. It was just so warm and indulgent, plus the fior de latte gelato with honeycomb topping was divine! Ashleigh, being a huge fan of salted caramel, thoroughly enjoyed the sundae. Plus we were informed by the waitress that everything is made in-house, which is a great to hear!

Having visited Honeycomb & Co for a cuppa and cake before, it was a delight to try their new dinner menu and we both felt extremely satisfied after our meal! If I had to pick a favourite dish from the entire meal, it would have to be the chocolate fondant!
